Years ago I was at a 4th of July party. It was the first 4th of July after the World Trade Center attacks happened on 9-11-01. Americans were very patriotic and we seemed to be united with a cause to recoup from this great tragedy.
Fireworks were exploding in the sky. People were hugging and kissing. Glasses and beer bottles were raised high as a toast to a better future was made.
On the radio was the broadcast of a local station that was covering the event. People calling in and sending out messages of love to friends and family who were no longer here. Emotions were high and then a song started playing in the background. I just started balling my eyes out.
I truly felt proud to be an American and grateful that I was among others who felt the same.
It’s now nearly 15 years later and I’m not as naive as I was back then.
I understand we are not as free as I once thought. The passing of the USA Patriot Act after 9-11 has stripped us of a lot of our rights.
I understand that America hasn’t been united as I once thought. Especially when it comes to ethnic people or people who don’t fit the mold.
I also understand that war is not the answer. Sure, it’s good to have the ability to defend the USA. But, we seem to start a lot of these wars.
But, I still believe in common decency. I still have hope in my heart that things can change.
Then I saw this video. Fear filled my heart and I began to cry. Is this what we have become, a nation that is divided so dramatically?
We have to stop the madness of our politicians and find a way to unite as the people of the United States. The chaos of this political arena is being seen all over the world. We look like fools.
I’m not a politician and I don’t know the answer. But, I do believe we need a whole new system. Our current system is simply not working anymore. The majority of the American people do not even trust the government anymore.
So much has been disclosed about the corruption in our governmental system that it almost sets the precedent for the rest of us to behave and act with deceit in our hearts. We must make it a priority to be diligent in trying to be peaceful, honest, and loving individuals. Let’s not let the government brainwash us anymore. Let’s take back the USA and be a shining example for the rest of the world.
We will learn to be kind to and love each other again, in time. It will take time, it will get much worse first. The trump – bernie clip is from Wisconsin. Trump was in Jamesville, whixh is about 4 miles from me. My son was there filming both days. Bernie was in Milwaukee, which is about an hour from me.
I don’t watch television because I don’t like seeing all the negativity they broadcast. But it’s hard to avoid when it’s all over the Internet too. It’s sad seeing how mean spirited we can be with each other.
I avoid the tv as well, it brings such negative energy into the home. It’s even difficult to go anywhere without seeing people being mean to each other.
